Putting Teamwork and Creativity to the Test

The Connect Mobile class stepped outside the classroom for a hands-on team-building experience designed to challenge how participants collaborated, problem-solved, and led together. Guided by Braxton Daw of Innovation Portal, the class took on a familiar—but deceptively complex—exercise: the classic egg drop challenge.Working within clear constraints, teams were tasked with designing and prototyping a structure capable of protecting a fragile egg from impact. With limited budgets and materials, participants were pushed to think strategically, communicate clearly, and adapt when ideas didn’t unfold as expected. The exercise emphasized shared decision-making and flexibility, encouraging teams to listen closely and adjust in real time

Collaboration in Practice:
Participants strengthened teamwork skills by working within diverse groups, sharing ideas, and making decisions collectively under pressure.

Why This Mattered to Mobile United
This experience reflected a core principle of Connect Mobile: leadership is developed through action, reflection, and collaboration. By stepping into a creative challenge, participants gained insight into how teams function under constraints and how leadership can emerge in different forms.
The lessons carried directly into the next phase of the Connect Mobile journey. Following the exercise, participants prepared to apply these same skills—collaboration, problem-solving, and shared responsibility—to a real-world service project supporting The Joseph Project food pantry at the Dumas Wesley Community Center.
By linking creative learning with community impact, Mobile United continues to prepare emerging leaders to serve Mobile with intention, confidence, and a commitment to working together for the greater good.
