Cooking at the Ronald McDonald House

September 28, 2025

Youth Leadership Mobile students volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, supporting families whose children are receiving medical care in our community. The group prepared and served brunch for families staying at the house, offering a moment of comfort, care, and connection during an otherwise challenging time. In addition to preparing meals, students learned more about the role Ronald McDonald House plays in Mobile—providing families with a place to stay, share meals, and find support while remaining close to their children’s medical treatment. The experience helped participants understand how small acts of service can carry deep meaning for families navigating medical uncertainty. This project marked an important milestone for Youth Leadership Mobile, introducing students to service rooted in empathy and presence. By showing up and serving together, students saw how leadership begins with meeting people where they are and responding with compassion

Youth Leadership Mobile’s first service project at the Ronald McDonald House focused on supporting families through hospitality, care, and community connection.

Tangible Impact

Meal Support for Families:

Students prepared and served brunch for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, helping provide a warm, shared meal in a space designed to offer comfort during extended medical stays.

Community Awareness and Learning:

Participants gained a deeper understanding of how the Ronald McDonald House supports families by reducing the financial and emotional burden of being away from home during a child’s treatment.

Why This Mattered to Mobile United

This experience reinforced the foundation of Youth Leadership Mobile’s leadership development: service begins with empathy. By volunteering in a setting centered on care and compassion, students learned that leadership is not always about solving problems—it is often about showing up, listening, and offering support.

As their first volunteer opportunity of 2025, the project set the tone for the year ahead—demonstrating that leadership is built through service, reflection, and a commitment to strengthening the community one family at a time.
